Am I in the HOA?

 All University of Michigan House Officers posessing the equivalent of a minimum of an M.D., D.O. or D.D.D degree.  So if you are a house officer, yes, you are in the HOA and are entitled to all its benefits.

Do I have to pay dues?

Yes, the dues are $170 annually.  In fact, membership in the HOA is not mandatory, but essentially paying dues is (in the form of a representation service fee).

  Who’s representing me in the HOA?

 The HOA board consists of 5 executive members: President, Vice-President, Immediate Past President, Secretary, and Treasurer, as well as 6 other representatives.  Please feel free to contact anyone on the board with a question or concern, after all is YOUR union!

Are there other opportunities to get involved beyond the HOA Board?

 Yes, there are at least 36 Committees with House Officer representatives and many are looking for new HOs!   The Committees develop and recommend policies on a waide range of topics vital to the UMHS including Quality Improvement, Pandemic Planning, Patient Safety, Transfusion Policy, and Disaster Planning.
